A pregnant woman called Ama Anima who was jailed for 5 years for biting her sibling in an attempt to defend herself while she was being beaten has been freed.
Ama Amina according to reports got into a fight with 3 of her family members after her child was beaten by her relatives.
Ama got hold of one of them and bit the person. The one Ama bit reported her and she was picked up by the police.
According to Crime Check Foundation led by Oppong Kwarteng who revealed the sad incident to the public said Ama told her they were told to come home and solve the problem since it is a family issue.
He went on to say that Ama told her she made attempts to meet with her sibling and solve the problem but her sibling was never available.
Ama’s sibling invited her over and upon her arrival at her sibling’s house, she was arrested.
She was taken back to court and the judge ordered her to pay GHC 1,200 or serve 5 years in jail.
Oppong Kwarteng indicated that Ama begs for money a dumping site and as a result, she told the court she will not be able to pay the money.
The judge then ruled that she should then serve 5 years in prison and was sent to Kumasi female’s prison.
When Oppong Kwarteng made the story known through his ‘Time with the Prison’s’ program, some residents of Kumasi who were touched by the story went to the court and paid her fine.
She was released at around 11 am on 27 June 2018.
