A shocking incident has unfolded in Accra, as a fetish priest named Agbeko Acumalt has been accused of killing a second-hand clothing trader from the Kantamanto Market. According to reports, the deceased woman had visited the suspect’s shrine with hopes of doubling her money. The tragic turn of events occurred when the trader threatened to report the priest to the police after he failed to fulfill his promise of doubling a sum of GHc15,000 she had given him.
The case was brought before the Achimota District Court in Accra on May 15. Chief Inspector Margaret Ofori Boadi, the prosecutor, revealed that the deceased had suffered a devastating loss in November 2022 when a fire outbreak at Kantamanto Market destroyed her goods, leaving her in a dire financial situation. In an attempt to salvage her business, she visited the priest’s shrine in Lente-Wuti in March 2023, seeking assistance through what was claimed to be money doubling rituals.
Allegedly, the priest introduced the trader to his assistant, Selassie, who provided her with a list of items required for the rituals. However, despite weeks passing after the rituals, the woman’s money failed to double, leaving her frustrated. She then threatened legal action against the priest and Selassie for their failure to fulfill their promises.
In fear of being reported to the authorities, the fetish priest and his accomplice devised a plan to eliminate the trader. On March 26, the priest invited her to his shrine, instructing her not to disclose the journey to anyone. Tragically, upon arrival at the shrine, located in Lente-Wuti, the woman was strangled to death by the priest and another individual.
Concerns arose when a relative of the deceased, Emmanuel Ofori Boadi, reported her as missing on April 3. This led to an investigation by the police, which resulted in the arrest of the fetish priest on April 5. Subsequent investigations led the authorities to locate the grave where the trader had been buried on April 19. Her decomposed body was exhumed on April 23 and taken to the morgue.
The accused individuals have now been charged and are facing legal proceedings for their alleged involvement in this heinous crime.
