A prisons officer, Gideon Adu Boakye, has reportedly been lynched at Iron City, a suburb of Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region
The deceased officer was stationed at the Nsawam prisons in the Eastern Region.
A video shared on X by Metro TV indicated that the remains of the deceased which were found by residents, were retrieved by personnel of the Ngleshi Amafro police command in the morning of October 1, 2024, with severe machete wounds.
The body was pulled out of a drain at the junction of Hope of Restoration School which is located at Red Ball, a suburb of Iron City in Kasoa, few streets away from the deceased officer’s home.
His identity and what led to his death was unknown at the time his body was retrieved.
The report further stated that his identity was revealed when his family went to lodge a complaint about him going missing at Nglesshi Amnafro police station.
The police showed the family photographs of the body that was retrieved earlier on October 1, 2024.
According to the report a family member named Eric Akoto disclosed that the deceased officer came home to spend the weekend with his mother, he however did not return home after going out on September 29, 2024.
The family pleaded with the police to conduct strict investigations into the matter and arrest the perpetrators as they suspect that his murder was a deliberate act.
In the video, Eric Akoto was heard saying “For now we just pray that God touches our heart. We plead with the prison officers to get involved, it can happen to anyone. We plead that the police get involved and catch the perpetrators of this act. We will be very happy; Gideon is gone, we can’t bring him back but we will be very happy to see that the culprits are brought to book.”
The report added that the deceased officer was described by his neighbours as kind-hearted and gentle, and due to that they have joined the cause to have his killers arrested and face the law.
