Professor Peter Twumasi has been relieved of his duties as the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA). The decision was confirmed in a statement issued by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, on February 26, 2024.
The statement also disclosed that Dodzie Numekevor has been appointed to serve as the Acting Director-General of the NSA until a permanent successor is appointed. Nana Bediatuo Asante emphasized that Dodzie Numekevor has been given 14 days to accept the appointment as the acting head of the NSA.
Prof. Twumasi’s dismissal follows his summoning to the Jubilee House for questioning on various matters. During the interrogation, he reportedly pleaded for clemency. However, his responses failed to satisfy the appointing authority, leading to his removal from office.
Prof. Twumasi assumed the position of Director-General of the NSA on December 10, 2019, succeeding Robert Sarfo Mensah, who resigned from his position following the release of Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ investigative documentary, ‘Number 12’.
