Ghana’s Public Records And Archives Department in a very bad state. The office does not have the necessary equipment to preserve the papers in the office.
In an interview on UTV, the Acting Director for Public Records and Archives Department, Felix Nyarko Ampong said they have notified the authorities but none has come to their aid.
In the interview, he stated that during Ghana’s dispute with Ivory Coast which Ghana won, the lawyers for the state came to their office for the necessary documents to present to the court.
Yet, nothing has been done to their request for the necessary equipment they need to preserve the documents.
These documents, he said, must be kept for the next generation as they will need them to make references.
Also, he stated that lawyers come to their office for documents to use in their work while PhD students also come to them for documents to use for their thesis.
He is, therefore, calling on the government to come to their aid as they must protect the document for the future generation.
