Ghana will be facing two countries they have already met before at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022 in November.
Ghana has been placed in Group H and will be facing Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.
The Black Stars of Ghana’s first encounter with Uruguay was in 2010 in South Africa and it is one of the memorable moments in the tournaments history as Ghana could have been the first African country to reach the semifinal of the competition. However, after Uruguay’s Diego Forlan equalised to make it 1-1, Luis Suarez’s intentional handball denied Ghana a goal. Ghana was awarded a penalty but Asamoah Gyan’s penalty kick hit the bar. Uruguay went through to the semifinal after beating Ghana on penalties.
Ghana met Portugal in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The two nations played the last group match and Ghana lost 2-1. Both countries could not progress to the next round of the competition.
South Korea and Ghana will be playing for the first time at the FIFA World Cup.
