Former Rector of GIMPA has indicated we [Ghana] should change our education system so that students in Senior High Schools should not be allowed to do science practical.
‘In America, they don’t do laboratory work at High School and therefore it shows that if you have a four-year university you don’t need a laboratory work. What you need at High School is principles of Science’.
Prof. Addai went on to say that students will be able to do any course if they go to the university when they understand the principles of Science.
The laboratory work in Senior High Schools does not favour students who go to schools with no science laboratories.
‘Let us use the money to equip the universities’, he said, as it will enable those who go to the university to learn science courses get the needed resources to do the practical better.
According to him, we are still using the old British system which requires laboratory work at Senior High School.
This he believes does not help some students as 50% of the schools do not have them.
He is asking for the education system to be changed so as laboratory work is not even a requirement for students who write the November-December exams.
