Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Senegal’s fifth president, has officially taken office after being sworn in at a ceremony held in the town of Diamniadio, near the capital Dakar.
Last month, the 44-year-old Mr. Faye emerged victorious in the delayed elections, securing 54% of the vote, surpassing his main challenger, Amadou Ba.
On Friday, the country’s Constitutional Council formally confirmed Mr. Faye as the winner of the presidential election.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of heads of state from across the continent, with notable attendees including Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu, who also serves as the chair of the regional bloc, Ecowas.
