Now the question everyone is asking is when will Kotoko sack Zachariassen?
Kumasi Asante Kotoko sacked C.K Akonnor after he had won the Normalization Committee Tier One Special Cup and had also qualified the team to the group stage of a CAF club competition for the first time in over a decade.
According to the management of Kotoko, C.K was “elevated” to the position of Technical Director but C.K turned down the offer and left the club.
Since his appointment, Zachariassen has spent more time praying with the players than working on his tactics.
Zachariassen was tasked to qualify the team to the Champions League group stage when he was appointed in June this year and lost his first competitive match 3-2 against Kano Pillars in the CAF Champions League preliminary stage in Nigeria in August.
Although he beat Kano Pillars and Etoile Sportive du Sahel 2-0 in Kumasi, Zachariassen has not been able to prove how good he is tactically apart from leading prayers and playing some players like Empem Dacosta in the wrong position.
In the second half of Kotoko’s game against San Pedro at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium it was clear that he was lost in the game as there was no game plan.
Before playing San Pedro, Kotoko could have made it to the group stage of the CAF Champions League if Zach had good tactics. Etoile before beating Kotoko 3-0 in Monastir had struggled to win a game in their last five games, played the game against Kotoko behind closed doors and also had a player sent off. Yet, Kotoko played poorly on the day with no proper direction from the dugout.
His excuse after the losing to Etoile and being eliminated from the Champions League was that Kotoko’s level is the Confederation Cup and not Champions League. Yet, he could not beat San Pedro to make it to the group stage of the competition.
Since his appointment, there has not been a single improvement in the style of play of the team.
The supporters of the club have been calling for his sacking yet the management seem to be at his defends.
Reports of him taking bribes from the players took over the airwaves for days.
But does he know what he is doing?
Well one would say he needs time to build the team especially when we do not know when the Ghana Premier League will start.
Also, he took over a new team as most of the players who were there last season were sacked and over twelve players have been signed.
From the games he has played since taking over the club, one can confidently say he has no idea what he is doing apart from leading the players in prayers.
