The Medical Superintendent at Suntresso Government Hospital, Dr Agyarko Opoku has denied claims that a woman identified as Angela Afriyie has died at the hospital because she could not pay ‘doctor’s motivational fee’ on time.
According to him, the woman gave up to the ghost when she was sent to the threatre.
Though he did not deny that the woman did not die at the hospital, he indicated that they have set up a committee to investigate the matter. The investigation which he said is called Maternal Audit will take about a week to finish.
Dr Agarko Opoku denied the earlier story that they sacked people from the labour ward.
He explained that the information they have gathered from their workers indicates that the woman died at the theatre.
The woman was first sent to the labour ward but when the doctors realized she was finding it difficult to give birth, they took her to the theatre, he said during an interview on Fox FM in Kumasi.
When she was sent her to the theatre, another patient was being operated on, nonetheless, he also made it clear that they have to wait for the Maternal Audit before he can comment further on the matter.
Before Dr Agyarko Opoku came out to deny the story, it was reported that Angela Afriyie and her unborn child died at the hospital when doctors asked her husband to pay GHC500 as a motivation fee to the doctors.
And according to the report, she died when her husband got the money to pay the motivation fee.
Dr Agyarko Opoku also said that the investigators are always there so whenever an incident happen, they notify them to do their investigations.
