The Techiman Municipality, located in the Bono East Region of Ghana, is currently facing a shortage of superglue, according to shop owners. The cause of this shortage has been attributed to a new trend in the area, whereby suspected drug addicts inhale the glue as a narcotic.
Reports indicate that the suspected drug addicts light the glue on fire, cover it with a cloth, and inhale the resulting vapors. Some shop owners have suggested that the glue is also being mixed with energy drinks to create a heightened sensation.
Speaking on the issue, one trader expressed surprise and dismay at the trend, stating that “What they are doing is terrible and unhealthy. I am pleading with them to stop.”
Some of the addicts who were interviewed confirmed that they inhale the glue and find the sensation to be better than other drugs they have used. While acknowledging the risks, they stated that the feeling they get from the practice is incredible.
The shortage of superglue has left some shop owners struggling to restock, and they have called for action to be taken to address the issue.
