There were reports circulating that the teacher’s license exams have been cancelled after some teachers opposed the new policy.
According to Dr Edwin Oduro, the General Secretary for National Teachers Council, the licensing examination has not been cancelled or suspended as it will be written in September 2018 to December 2018.
The test which will attract a fee of ¢220 and people who fail to pass the test will take the test again till they pass it.
She indicated that the policy was made a long time ago and some teachers have even registered for the test.
The Ministry of Education, she said, is giving them all the support they need to put things in place.
The test will comprise of English and Mathematics which will include an essay.
Meanwhile, those who oppose the examination wants the government to start the policy with those who are yet to become teachers.
According to the teachers, the idea that the government wants to make sure they produce teachers who deserve to be in the classroom is not necessary as they wrote all the required when they were in school.
Friends from College Education this week demonstrated against the policy saying if the government’s new policy for College Education students did not include those who were not in school, why should they be included in this new policy?
