Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s dream of progressing to the Champions League group stage for the first time in 13 years came to an end after they lost to Etoile Sportive du Sahel in the second leg of the Champions League preliminary stage.
Kotoko won the first leg 2-0 and lost the second leg 3-0.
According to the rules of the competition, teams that have been demoted from the Champions League to the Confederation Cup cannot meet.
The teams Kotoko cannot meet include Al Nasr (Libya), Horoya (Guinea), ASC Kara (Togo), Enyimba (Nigeria), Gor Mahia (Kenya), Cano Sport (Equatorial Guinea), Cote d’Or (Seychelles), Nouadhibou (Mauritania), Elect Sport, Young Africans (Tanzania), UD Songo, Fosa Juniors (Madagascar), UD Songo (Mozambique) and Premiero de Agosto (Angola).
The teams Kotoko and other clubs demoted from the Champions League can meet are Bidvest Wits (South Africa), TS Galaxy (South Africa), Hassania Agadir (Morocco), Renaissance Berkane (Morocco), Al Masry (Egypt), Pyramids (Egypt), Bandari (Kenya), Daring Club Motema, Pembe (DR Congo), Djoliba (Mali), Enugu Rangers (Nigeria), ESAE (Benin), Paradou (Algeria), Proline (Uganda), San Pedro (Ivory Coast), Triangle United (Zimbabwe) and Zanaco (Zambia).
