Angry supporters of Ivorian side San Pedro FC have threatened bloodshed in a repeat of a 1993 incident that involved Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Asec Mimosas.
In 1993 after Asante Kotoko knocked out Asec Mimosas of Ivory Coast, fans of the Ivorian club attacked Ghanaians living in Ivory Coast.
Most Ghanaians at the time domiciled in Ivory Coast had to flee the violence as some were killed and others maimed.
Kotoko in the first leg at the Baba Yara Stadium defeated the Ivorian side by a lone goal through a Naby Keita penalty.
Fans of San Pedro have vowed to repeat the dastardly act that occurred some 26 years ago in Ivory Coast When Kotoko visit Abidjan this weekend.
“We are very very angry for what happened in Kumasi, it is not what should happen in football, they forced us to play the game in two days, they maltreated our players and officials, Somebody hit one of our officials and stole his wrist watch” A supporter of FC San Pedro told Angel Fm in Accra.
“If they come what happened in 1993 against ASEC will even be small, we want them to know that Ivory Coast is not afraid of blood, we are not afraid of FIFA, we are not afraid of any body, we the supporters have said this and the match will be bloody.”
Kotoko will play the Ivorian side this weekend in the 2nd leg play off in Abidjan with the winner progressing to the group stage of the 2019/2020 Caf Confederations Cup.
