President Akufo-Addo has officially reiterated the World Health Organization’s (WHO) declaration that COVID-19 no longer represents a global health emergency. The WHO initially declared the public health emergency of international concern in January 2020. Since then, Ghana has implemented various health measures, including vaccinations, testing, and other stringent actions to combat the spread of the pandemic.
In his final address to the nation on the measures taken in the fight against COVID-19, President Akufo-Addo expressed gratitude to all those who supported the cause during this challenging time. He acknowledged the efforts made and the progress achieved, stating, “This too has passed.” He further added, “The emergency is over, and we can safely lift any of those oppressive restrictions we have had to endure.”
President Akufo-Addo’s affirmation of the end of the global health emergency aligns with the suspension of the COVID-19 health declaration form for international travelers to Ghana. The nation has made significant strides in controlling the virus, and the declaration by the President signifies a milestone in the battle against COVID-19.
Ghana, like many countries, will need to maintain vigilance and continue adhering to health guidelines to prevent any potential resurgence. While the global health emergency has ended, it is crucial for individuals to remain cautious and prioritize their well-being, as the virus still poses a threat.
As President Akufo-Addo declared, “This too has passed.” It marks a turning point in Ghana’s fight against the pandemic, providing hope for a brighter future and a gradual return to normalcy.
