Three ex-convicts have been sentenced to a six-month jail term each with hard labor by the Agona Nsaba Magistrate’s Court. The individuals, Ernest Saakwa (35), Emmanuel Amoaning (33), and Yaw Oboom (32), pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and stealing.
They were found guilty of stealing cassava worth GH₵1,800.00 from the farm of Mr. Emmanuel Fenyn, a farmer at Agona Nyakrom.
The court, presided over by Mr. Victor Kusi, sentenced each of the defendants to six months in jail for each charge, with the sentences to run concurrently. This verdict comes after the same court had previously sentenced them to three months in jail for stealing plantains.
According to Detective Chief Inspector Aglagoh Lawson, who prosecuted the case, the convicts went to the complainant’s cassava farm on Sunday, November 5, 2023.
While harvesting, a witness spotted them, and upon being informed, the complainant confronted the individuals. Although they were not found at the farm, they later admitted to uprooting the cassava and selling it for GH₵1,800.00 to an unknown person in Agona Swedru. The convicts were subsequently charged after investigations.
