On July 6, 2019, Kumasi Asante Kotoko signed Norwegian coach, Kjetil Zachariassen after he left regional rivals, Ashanti Gold SC.
He replaced C.K Akonnor as the coach of Asante Kotoko and was tasked to take the club to the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

He joined Kotoko after winning the Normalisation Tier 2 competition with Ashanti Gold SC.

He played six games, won three and lost three.
Zachariassen, who some believe is one of the worst coaches in the club’s history was sacked before the year 2019 ended. He sued Kotoko and won the case.
