Police in Nyamira County, Kenya have arrested two men following the circulation of a horrifying video showing a man being brutally assaulted and thrown into a fire over allegations of chicken theft.
The disturbing incident occurred on Saturday, July 26, 2025, in Matongo, located in Nyamira North.
The suspects, identified as James Nyang’au Kieri and Evans Nyang’au Anyoka, were captured in viral footage mercilessly beating the victim before throwing him into a burning fire.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
“Through forensic analysis, detectives tracked down the suspects and apprehended them. They are currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment,” the DCI said.


The National Police Service (NPS) also issued a statement expressing deep concern over the rising number of mob justice incidents across the country.
“The National Police Service expresses deep concern over the alarming rise in cases of mob injustice and their severe implications for public safety. The public is urged to allow the justice system to take its course, as taking the law into one’s own hands will be met with the full force of the law,” the statement added.
