An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced two individuals to 20 years in prison each for robbing a sales agent of Best 5 Company Limited of GHC303,035 at gunpoint. Samuel Quansah, known as Amobi, a herbalist, and Stephen Acheampong, a driver, pleaded guilty to charges of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. Quansah faced additional charges of possessing arms and ammunition without authority. The court, presided over by Isaac Addo, convicted them based on their own pleas and sentenced them to concurrent 20-year prison terms for each charge.
Emmanuel Etsiwa, also known as Tsampana, an accomplice, is reportedly at large. The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer, stated that the complainants were Ali Mousa Dagher, a sales representative of Best 5 Company Limited, and Dominic Essel, the company’s driver. They reported that on August 15, 2023, two armed robbers stopped their vehicle and robbed them at gunpoint while they were returning from Ashaiman to the company’s office, stealing GHC303,035.
During police investigations, Acheampong confessed to his involvement in the robbery and implicated Quansah and Etsiwa as his accomplices. The police tracked Quansah to his hideout, where he resisted arrest and shot a police officer in the abdomen before being apprehended. Firearms and money believed to be part of the stolen funds were recovered during the operation.
Quansah’s father, Kwesi Quansah, is also facing “committal processes” in court, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend Etsiwa, who remains at large.
