A shopkeeper and his son have been arrested for selling fake jerseys of Kumasi Asante Kotoko in Kumasi.
The CEO of Club Consult Africa and former captain of Kotoko, Yusif Chibsah who made the kit deal possible for his former club made the announcement on Twitter.
Though he did name those who were involved in the act, he indicated they have been “locked up” at the Kumasi Central Police Station.
Chibsah posted on his Twitter account: ”The owner of the Tarkoradian Brothers shop and his son, who were engaged in the act of selling this fake @strikeportugal jerseys of @AsanteKotoko_SC have been arrested this morning at around 11 am and locked up at the Kumasi central Police station @ClubConsultAfr.”
Last year, Kotoko signed a kit sponsorship deal with Portuguese company, Strike. A shop was opened at the Sports Hotel in Kumasi to make it possible to the fans of the club to buy the replica jerseys.
The two have become the first to be arrested for the sale of fake replica jerseys since the deal was signed.
