The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has announced the dismissal of Mabel Teye-Nomo, a female student who was caught on video bullying two other students with canes. The incident went viral on April 6, 2023, and sparked outrage among the public.
According to reports, Mabel Teye-Nomo claimed that the two students had gossiped about her, which led to her violent outburst. However, the university administration deemed her behavior unacceptable and in violation of the institution’s fundamental regulations.
In a statement signed by the Registrar of UPSA, Dr Koryoe Anim-Wright, and dated April 19, 2023, Mabel Teye-Nomo was dismissed under Schedule G, Section 8.4 of the university’s fundamental regulations. The statement further directed her to hand over her hostel keys and student ID card to the appropriate university authorities.
The incident has been widely condemned by the public, with many calling for justice for the victims. The university’s swift action in dismissing the student sends a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated on campus.
In the videos that went viral, Mabel Teye-Nomo was seen mercilessly whipping two other female students with a cane. In one of the videos, she was heard asking one of the victims, “Where do you know me?” while continuing to lash her with the cane.
