In the early hours of Sunday, February 12, 2023, a police operation in the Abor suburb of Kpadzakope in the Volta Region resulted in the killing of three suspected armed robbers. The incident took place in the area of Tsive-Kpotame, where a group of seven suspected robbers had allegedly planned to attack a local residence.
Upon receiving information about the suspected crime, police personnel quickly sprang into action and laid an ambush in the area, ready to intercept the robbers. However, when the robbers became aware of the police presence, they reportedly opened fire on the officers, sparking a confrontation. Despite the attackers’ efforts, the police were able to overpower them, resulting in the death of three of the seven suspects.
Unfortunately, one police officer was also injured in the exchange of gunfire and had to be rushed to a hospital for treatment. The police were able to retrieve a significant amount of evidence from the scene, including a pump-action gun, a locally manufactured pistol, and thirty rounds of AA ammunition.
Following the incident, local authorities have called for the remaining suspects to be apprehended and brought to justice. A team of police officers, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Andrews Boadu-Ekumah, the Volta Regional Police Commander, has since visited the area to gather further information and to take any necessary actions.
Despite the Abor District Police Commander, Superintendent Daniel Carlos Atongnab, declining to comment on the incident, the police force remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of the local community and will continue to take swift action against any criminal activity.
