The Ghana Airways aeroplane that was transformed into a unique restaurant known as La Tante DC-10 Restaurant, evoking nostalgic memories of the country’s aviation history and was cherished symbol of Ghana’s past has now faced an unfortunate demise.
In a video shared on social media, specifically on UTV, it was revealed that the La Tante DC-10 Restaurant, named after the old plane, has been permanently shut down. Moreover, the remains of the airplane have been removed from its original location at the airport in Accra. This development marks the end of the efforts to preserve the memory of this national relic.
“The Ghana Airways plane, which was refurbished and transformed into La Tante DC-10 Restaurant in 2013 through a public-private partnership, and located opposite the Marina Shopping Mall, Accra, has now permanently closed its doors, and the airplane has been towed away,” the caption to the video said.
The video shared on social media not only announced the closure but also highlighted the extent of deterioration that had affected the once-thriving restaurant. It’s a somber moment for those who cherished the idea of keeping alive the legacy of Ghana Airways through this symbolic establishment.
