Watch how former Black Stars forward Opoku Afriyie who died on Sunday in Kumasi registered a brace to win the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for Ghana.
Opoku Opoku scored a volley to record the opener for the Black Stars before he put the game beyond the reach of the East Africans with the second goal.
The joy that followed Opoku Afriyie’s second goal was great and it threw the fans into wild jubilation.
Ghana won their third continental title on home soil in a grand style. They had won the AFCON in 1963 and 1965.
Opoku Afriyie who emerged as the hero of the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations would win the Ghanaian topflight league top scorer with Asante Kotoko in 1979 and 1981.
He later became the Team manager for both Asante Kotoko and the Black Stars.
Unfortunately, Ghanaian football-loving fans didn’t hear good news when it was announced that Opoku Afriyie has passed away in the Ashanti Regional of Kumasi.
