After Zesco United’s elimination from the Confederation Cup, some fans of the Zambian club started offering their full support to Kotoko ahead of their match tomorrow.
Before the start of the group stage, Zesco was tipped to be the first team to qualify easily, however, it has become the first and only team to exit the competition before the last round of matches.
Does Zesco United’s elimination from the competition give Kotoko an upper hand?
In a way, the answer is yes. Zesco United’s elimination from the tournament gives Kotoko an upper hand as they have won only one match since the tournament started.
Zesco’s only win came on Match day 1 when they played rivals Nkana FC at their home grounds.
Since then, they have lost to Al Hilal in Sudan and drew with them in Zambia.
Nkana also got their revenge when they hosted them last week in Kitwe to beat them 3-1 after losing to them on Match day 1.
And it is that win for Nkana that has made Zesco fans offer their support to Kotoko.
Most Zambian football fans wanted Zesco to win their game against Nkana in Kitwe so that they can have a Zambian club in the next stage of the competition because they do not believe Nkana can beat Al Hilal in Sudan.
On the match day, authorities beef up the security as they believed a win for Zesco can also cause some problems.
Nkana took advantage of Zesco’s bad form to win the match and go on top of the group with 9 points.
Since then Zesco fans have been trooping behind Kotoko to beat them.
But one thing that gives Zesco an upper hand over Kumasi Asante Kotoko is that no team has won at their home ground in years especially when they will be playing without their main man Sogne Yacouba.
