A farmer in the Central Region of Ghana, Charles Oko, was left with serious injuries after being attacked with a cutlass by a female farmer known as Madam Yaa Yaa. The incident occurred at Botoku in the Awutu-Senya-West District, and the altercation began when Madam Yaa Yaa accused Charles Oko, the 47-year-old victim, of destroying her cassava plantation while clearing weeds around the crops at a shared boundary.
According to Mr Godfred Quaye, brother of the victim, Charles Oko immediately apologized for the blunder after Madam Yaa Yaa confronted him but she refused to accept the apology. Despite his sincere apology, Madam Yaa Yaa refused to forgive him and instead decided to take matters into her own hands. In a fit of rage, she attacked Charles Oko with a cutlass as soon as he turned to go back to his farm.
The attack left Charles Oko with cuts on the head and shoulders, and Madam Yaa Yaa absconded right after the act. Some hunters later found the victim badly wounded and rushed him to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.
This act of violence is truly unfortunate and it is important that justice is served. The case has been reported to the Awutu Beraku District Police Command for investigations. It is vital that the perpetrator is held accountable for their actions and the victim receives the necessary medical attention and compensation for his injuries.
It is also important to note that disputes such as these can often be resolved through peaceful means such as mediation or negotiation. Violence should never be an option and it is crucial that we as a society promote and encourage peaceful resolution of conflicts.
