Kumasi Asante Kotoko will play against an Ivorian club in this year’s president’s cup at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, the President of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Cudjoe Fiano has said on Oyerepa Radio during an interview today.
Over the years, the President’s Cup has been played between two Ghanaian clubs, however, Fiano in the interview said that they want this year’s game to go international. For that reason, they have informed the President to let his Special Guest of Honour, the Ivorian President, Alasane Ouatara to select a team from his country to play Kotoko.
Initially, the President wanted the current champions of the Ghanaian Premier League, Medeama SC to play the current champions of the Ivorian Ligue 1, Asec Mimosas. But since the two clubs are already playing in the CAF Champions League, Kotoko will represent Ghana while President Ouatara will choose a team from Ivory Coast to play Kotoko.
He added that a football match will be played between University of Ghana’s Commonwealth Hall, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s Unity Hall and University Hall, and one university hall in Kumasi will join the three others.
Black Sheriff will be the stadium to perform, he added.
