Hearts of Oak board member, Vincent Sowah Odotei, has affirmed that the club provides competitive salaries to its players, enabling them to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle. According to him, some players on the team are using their earnings to purchase cars and build houses, showcasing the financial well-being of the squad.
Despite enduring a challenging start to the season, with just two wins in their last 12 matches across various competitions, Hearts of Oak remains committed to player welfare. The team recently faced a setback with an FA Cup exit after a penalty shootout loss to lower-tier side Nania FC. Additionally, the club is currently without a permanent head coach, following the departure of Martin Koopman in mid-November.
Vincent Sowah Odotei addressed concerns about player welfare at Hearts of Oak, emphasizing that the players are well-compensated. He highlighted the transformation in some players’ lives, noting that individuals who had never traveled outside of Ghana are now able to invest in property and vehicles.
“We had players who hadn’t traveled outside of Ghana before and now they are building houses and buying cars,” Sowah Odotei stated, as quoted by Ghanasoccernet. “Our players are well-paid, and we prioritize their welfare. I recall a video which was circulating just before the season started with Hearts of Oak players arriving at the hostel with their cars.”
Despite the challenges, Hearts of Oak is positioned in eighth place in the Ghana Premier League. The team is gearing up for a crucial clash against archrivals Asante Kotoko on Sunday. It’s worth noting that the Phobians have temporarily shifted their home ground to the Baba Yara Stadium after the Accra Sports Stadium was rented out for concerts throughout December by the National Sports Authority.
