Sad news coming in indicates Ghanaian diplomat, Kofi Annan is dead.
The 80-year old 7th Secretary-General of the United Nations died in the Swiss capital of Bern.
Kofi Annan was born in Kumasi on 8 April 1938 and studied Economics at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and was a member of Unity Hall before leaving to Macalester College to continue his education.
He went on to study International Relations at Graduate Institute of International and Developmental Studies in Geneva and Management at MIT.
Kofi Annan is the Founder of Kofi Annan Foundation and also the head of The Elders which was founded by former South African President Nelson Mandela.
He was given the title Busumuro by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu for this work to the world.
He was appointed the UN Secretary-General in 1996 after he was appointed by the Security Council and in 2001 he and the United Nations were co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Kofi Anna had 2 children from his first marriage to Titi Alakija, a Nigerian he married in 1965 and divorced in 1983. He married Nane Maria Lagergren in 1984 till his death.
He left behind 3 children, Kojo, Ama and Nina Annan.
