Spain kept possession of the ball throughout the whole game making it difficult for Russia to create a chance for themselves.
The only chance they got throughout the game was the penalty kick.
Iniesta came on for David Silva but all his efforts were saved by Igor Akinfeev and after 120 minutes, the game went to penalties which Spain lost.
Iniesta, Pique and Ramos scored their penalties for their country while Iago Aspas and Koke missed theirs.
Smolov, Ignashevich, Golovin and Cheryshev scored their penalties before Akinfeev saved Aspas’ penalty with this leg.
Russia will now face either Denmark or Croatia.
