Accra Lions played a pivotal role in rescuing Kumasi Asante Kotoko from the potential consequences of a serious administrative error. The predicament surfaced when the Accra-based club uncovered that a midfielder for Kotoko, had been registered twice within the Ghana Football Association’s system. This revelation raised concerns that, if Kotoko were to field the player in the match against Accra Lions, the GFA could enforce point deductions against Kotoko, should they emerge victorious.
Despite having the opportunity to exploit this situation to their advantage, Accra Lions displayed commendable sportsmanship. Instead of capitalizing on the potential point deduction, the club urged Kotoko to conduct an internal investigation into the matter.
Following Kotoko’s internal inquiry, it was confirmed that the players name had indeed been registered twice in the system. Subsequently, the player, despite being a cherished figure among the fans, was sidelined and has not participated in any match for Kotoko since the discovery.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko managed to secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory in the game.
