Executive chairman for Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Dr. Kwame Kyei has denied having any knowledge of the bribery allegations leveled against the club in their Match Week 11 fixture against Obuasi Ashanti Gold in the Normalization Committee (NC) Special Competition.
Retired referee Robert Kakabo Mensah accused an operation member of Asante Kotoko named Kofi Oduro ‘Shishila’ of trying to bribe him to influence the outcome of a match between his outfit and Ashanti Gold SC in the ongoing NC Special Competition.
According to the referee who shared the story on Sunyani based Nimde3 FM, the said Kotoko operative offered the referee for the match, a sum of GH¢8,000 for him to officiate the match in their favour.
However, after losing the match by a lone goal to nothing, Kofi Oduro ‘Shishila’ went back insisting that Dr Kwame Kyei had asked him to retrieve the money because the referee couldn’t help them get anything out of the match.
Speaking on the back of the story, Communications Director for the Kumasi based side, Lawyer Sarfo Duku has shared that the story is not true whiles indicating that Dr Kwame Kyei wants to make it clear that he has nothing to do with the reports in the media.
“Dr Kwame Kyei has asked me to tell the world he knows nothing about the issues going rounds and that he has sent no one. No official at Kotoko has sent Shishila to do what he is alleged to have done. Whoever is alleging must prove”, Lawyer Sarfo Duku said in an interview on Oyerepa FM.
